What We Do

New driveways and patios, start to finish

SC Concrete Services is a family-owned crew that pours new concrete driveways and patios for homes in Westland and the towns around it. Our shop sits on Heyer Street in Romulus, so most of Wayne County is a short drive, and we head into Oakland and Washtenaw County every week of the season. Chris comes out himself to measure, look at the ground and talk through how you actually use the space, from where the second car parks to where the grill will sit.

Every slab starts underneath. We dig out soft soil, build a compacted 21AA base in lifts, set the slope so water runs away from the house and pour an air-entrained mix with rebar or fiber. Control joints go where the concrete will want to move, and a sealer goes on before the first winter. Finishes run from plain broom to stamped, colored and exposed aggregate. We also take on commercial flat work, and financing through Wisetack is there if it helps.

Built for Michigan weather

What Michigan does to a driveway

Because Michigan weather is hard on concrete, we put the most care into the parts you can’t see: proper sub-base, reinforcement, and curing that make your concrete last.

Freeze-thaw

Frost heave in wet clay

Water trapped in the clay under a slab freezes and expands every winter, lifting the concrete, then lets it settle back unevenly in spring.

Soft clay dug out and replaced with compacted 21AA aggregate base.
Road salt

Salt that eats the surface

Salt brine drips off every car parked in a Michigan driveway from November to March, and it flakes and pits concrete that wasn’t built or sealed for it.

Air-entrained mix, proper curing, and a sealer before the first winter.
Spring water

Water with nowhere to go

Flat lots and slow-draining clay keep snowmelt and spring rain sitting against the slab and the foundation, which is why so many driveways tip toward the garage.

Grade set so water runs off the slab and away from the house.

And three kinds of ground underneath it

A driveway in Taylor gets built differently from one in Novi or Canton. Every community page explains which ground you’re on.

Lake-plain clay

Flat, slow-draining clay left behind by the glacial lakes that once covered most of Wayne County.

Rolling glacial till

The hills of southern Oakland County, a mix of dense clay with pockets of sand and stone left by retreating glaciers.

Sandy outwash

Sand and gravel laid down by glacial meltwater along the Rouge and Huron rivers, from Plymouth and Canton down to Belleville and Ypsilanti.

Nothing checked yet

Tap whatever looks familiar

Most people check two or three and don’t realize they’re connected. Water, base and soil problems usually show up together.

Questions homeowners ask us

Ask each one how deep they dig, what goes under the slab and how they plan the drainage. A low number often means a thin base or no reinforcement. We put all of that in writing so you can compare line by line.
